A Little Lost

“Once upon a time, words began to vanish from the language of children. They disappeared so quietly that at first almost no one noticed. Fading away like water on stone. The words were those that children used to name the natural world around them. Acorn, adder, bluebell, bramble, conker, dandelion, GONE! Fern, heather, kingfisher, magpie, otter, raven, willow, wren, all of them GONE! The words were becoming lost, no longer vivid in children’s voices, no longer alive in their stories…”
Robert Macfarlane

Between February and June 2025, we were busy visiting communities from across the St Austell area and the Isles of Scilly with our duet ‘A Little Lost’. Through interactive performance and creative nature based workshops – all inspired by the book ‘The Lost Words’ by Robert Macfarlan and Jackie Morris – we asked participants to join us on a quest to keep the magic of the Lost Words alive. We danced, we sang, we searched, we found and we created with 6 special community groups, meeting hundreds of participants along the way!
