Trebah Gardens - June 2005
Landings was a site-specific community performance event at Trebah Gardens, near Falmouth in Cornwall. aiming to explore issues around World War Two, with a particular focus on local involvement in the D-Day Landings in 1944.
Directed by Helen Tiplady, co-director of Cscape, the company’s dancers also choreographed, performed and led education work in over 15 local schools.
The evening performance saw a company of sixteen professional dancers present a promenade performance through the stunning landscaped gardens down to the beach.
Audiences were treated to choreography of parting wartime lovers, landgirls and forgotten soldiers hidden amongst trees, bamboo shoots and gunnera.
With stunning film and visual installations along the journey to provoke thought and remembrance, the spectacular finale took place on the embarcation point where the soldiers left the idyllic settings of Trebah and set sail for the D-Day assault.
